Roberto Tarenzi graduated in violin under Alda Anfossi in 1982 and in viola with Piero Farulli in1986. From1984 to 2005 he was a founder member and viola player in the Quartetto Borciani. With the quartet he has played in the most important concert halls in Italy and abroad. He has played at the principal international music festivals. He has performed and recorded pieces from great quartet repertoires from Haydn to modern composers for the Stradivarius, Naxos and Amadeus record labels. Many Italian composers have written pieces for the Quartetto Borciani. He has worked with musicians such as Antonio Ballista, Bruno Canino, Paolo Bordoni, Orazio Majone, Stefania Redaelli, Maurizio Zanini, Sigfrid Palm and Enrico Dindo, Hatto Beyerle and Danilo Rossi, Fabrizio Meloni and Emanuele Segre. He has given master classes in quartet and chamber performance in Madrid and California. From 1987 to 1992 he was 1 st viola in the Stradivarius chamber orchestra conducted by Daniele Gatti. He curated The Schoenberg Experience with Alessandra Abbado, an interdisciplinary project dedicated to Schoenberg, sponsored by the Bologna city council and the Teatro Comunale Foundation of Bologna with a major contribution from the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna and from Nuria Schoenberg Nono. He curated the techno/musical section of Daniel Baremboin’s book “Music Quickens Time” for the publishing house Giangiacomo Feltrinelli. Since 1994 he has been full professor of ensemble music for strings at the “ G. Verdi “ conservatory in Milan. In 2018, together with Luca Formenton, Carlo Parazzoli and Marco Seco, he founded LaFil – Milan Philharmonic.
